Finding a Northwest Passage

I started my route from Portugal Spain in search of the northwest passage. I went west by northwest until I got to Canada. I discovered a bay which led into a river going southwest. I followed it until It led into Lake Ontario. From there I went south into Lake Eerie, north into Lake Huron, and then northwest into Lake Superior. I went west until I reached the opening of the Mississippi River. I followed it roughly South until I reached the Gulf of Mexico. I sailed through the Caribbean Ocean and realized that I had failed. I had not discovered a Northwest passage. :(
